I was hunting a couple yards tonight and kept diggin the strangest things. This was by far my most interesting hunt to date. I finally had to give up as the Misquitoes were trying to carry me away. I put up one heck of a fight but finally between the darkness and the bugs I had to throw in the towel. There are many more things to dig at this site for sure.

Coins--
3-mercs 1927-s,1935,1945
3-rosies 1963-D,1952,1957
1 Wash Quarter 1946

The oblong coin is a penny that has had the 10 commandments smashed into it. Much easier to carry than the actual large tablets.

The necklace is 14kt chain with a sterling pendant

the pin with the red stones is sterling.
the ring is 14kt gold filled?

HH,

:icon_thumright: sweet finds great hunt

Nice finds Dave.

That Lord's Prayer smashed penny is an awesome find.

Congrats on all the silver too.

never seen anything like the $1.00 over 2 reverse.

also, really neat to find two denominations same company.

What is that in pics 2 and 3, with the $1 over 2 and 'Roy Tharp' on the other side?

Don't know what that is. I posted this aloneon a different thread to see if someone knows what it is.

HH,

Dave

Ya see, that's the problem. You find two real nice tokens, and not a word mentioned. No respect, I tell ya, no respect. And that $1.00 possible token could be a killer find. No respect.
Kudos.
Carl

Awesome finds, Dave! Congrats. That is a great assortment. That token is cool. What is that one tag? It almost looks like a dog tag, except for the back. Hmm.

Get back there soon (I'm sure you will), and don't forget the bug spray!

HH,

Dr. Ace

Nice hunt assortment! I'd keep hunting those spots!

Shot in the dark, but "History of Des Moines County, Iowa
By Augustine M. Antrobus" mentions a Roy L. Tharp of Burlington, Iowa. Hope it helps,
Carl

I agree with Carl! Those tokens are tops! :o Of course all the other stuff is good too....but gosh, gotta love the trade tokens! :icon_thumleft:

Excellent hunt!!

Nana

Thanks for all the replies,

Funny thing about the hunt is that I told my wife I was going out to dig a silver dollar. I left the house with that thought and then I found two items that reference a dollar. Is this the detecting gods messing with me?

You know you are having a great hunt when you find more than you can post in one thread. I left out the 23 wheat pennies 1920-D being the oldest and the $3.45 in clad found.

I am determined to dig a silver dollar and it is high on my want list, although the trade tokens were a great find as they were something that is a big part of the history of my small town. The Shadle family is a very well known name here. The library and park were both donated by the family and are named as such. One of the sons, Owen Shadle was murdered back in 1941 here in town, one of the only two murders in our town history.

Here is an add I found from an old newspaper for the store. It was open in 1879 here in town and burned to the ground in 1894 and was moved to a new building later that year.

that's really cool to find "a" token first of all...
then to find two different denominations...
in pretty darn good condition...
then to id them and to a local town...
then to find an ad for the exact same store...

gosh, the md gods are lining you up to find that silver dollar.... "somehow it will come with some history attached to it also..." :icon_thumleft:
