OK I know how to dig good plugs in thick grass but what about where the grass is dry or thin (like creeping charlie), what are some techniques for digging that and not killing the grass?

Dig it an kill it, or don't dig it and let it live. The red pill or the blue pill....decisions :icon_scratch:

Yup!

This is that time of year...if there is doubt, it's probably best not to dig. Google search shows Creeping Charlie to be something way different than grass??

Yes, creeping charlie is an invasive low growing weed that chokes out and kills grasses.

If you are just talking about coins, then try the old method we used back in the old days. I used to probe the hole with a screwdriver and pop the old coin out of the grass without a hint of me being there. But I did scratch a few coins doing so.
