what do you think it it is? besides a hard used dime?

Welcome aboard :icon_thumleft:---I think its just a smashed 2014 dime, don't believe it came from the mint like that

Welcome from Connecticut

I was thinking that it was an error coin 1491867505617-1604321874.webp

Welcome to Tnet.
The dime has numerous cuts, like it was hit or chopped by something. Maybe a lawn mower?

I'm thinking part mint damage and part mower damage. Try a coin dealer.

1st - Welcome Aboard Leslieann! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

Welcome from Mass!
Pretty cool beat dime there. Squished by something. :dontknow:

Looks like something heavy and round fell on it or was possibly slammed into it to make it appear to be an Error Coin. Note the extra damage on the Obverse (front) from the object being drove into the coin while it was likely laying face down (Obverse down) on concrete or another hard surface or object.
