Got this idea from a site I found while searching searching for Deus headphones.
Building these yourself has two benefits: 1. It's a lot cheaper than what is out there for sale. 2. It uses the same speakers as the backphones so there is no change in signal tone when you switch from one to the other.
I bought an extra Backphone Headband from the Deus US distrbutor for $21.
Got the Ear protectors from here for $14 Peltor Shotgunner NRR 21 dB Earmuff, Black - Walmart.com.
A couple of changes I made are heat shrink tubing and wire ties on the external wires and I also fished the wire up through the head bad to protect it and make it look nicer.
The wires that come with the backphones are just long enough to make the connections, which made assembly difficult. I had to cut slots in the foam that comes in the ear protectors to allow me to slip the speakers through after I reconnected the wire.
To mount the plate that the control puck slides onto, first I decided on the orientation I wanted. Then I cut one slot at a time for the three clips to drop into. I had to cut off the posts just behind each clip to allow the clip to drop into the holes. getting the plate to sit just right is kind of difficult because of the concave surface of the ear cup. I used one of the longer screws that came out of the backphone headband to secure the plate to the ear cup. I think I will eventually epoxy the plate in place once I am sure everything is working good.
Here are some completed pictures, sorry I didn't do any in-progress pictures. If you have any questions let me know.
