🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Do I have a British Colonial Copper here? Edit- seems to be a button of some sort

Hi All,

I recovered a very large copper coin today, at least what I believe is a coin. It is about 35mm in diameter as you can see in the photos below and is 20.2 grams. I am currently soaking it in hot, soapy water to help with the corrosion but right now I can't make out anything on it. I discovered it at one of my secret spots where I previously found 3 American large cents that range from the 1840s to the 1850s. I'd appreciate any feedback or educated guesses. Thank you in advance.

At the 2.5 cm mark, it looks there's a 2.

Here's an update after an hour of soaking. A lot of the corrosion came off and now I don't believe it is a coin at all. It seems to have 2 broken off shanks on the back, so now I am guessing it is a copper button? There does seem to be some numbers/letters below the shanks but I can barely make them out- I think the first 2 numbers are 28 and the 3rd mark almost looks like an M. Here are the updated photos after soaking.

Could the studs on it have been rivets used to fasten it on a leather strap or belt?

Sorry for my delay in responding but I agree with you. I cleaned the item a little more and there seems to be some numbers/letters. I see "83Z." What do others see?

or RSZ turned the other way. It looks like 2 attachment points...maybe a pin?
