I found this thing at a site that goes back
to the early 1800's. It seems to be brass,
but it set my MD off like an aluminum can?

It has a nice red patina,

Is this a Colt? It was found at the same site
and it seems to measure 44 cal,

Hay, would this hurt if it was cocked?

Ever seen one of these. I found it there too.
It looks kind of like a curtain rod end. It seems
to be brass, or brass and copper on the bulb part,

It has about a 5/16th inch, threaded hole in
it,

Thanks fer L@@kin Yawl

If there is a V on the pad, the leghold trap is made by Victor.

Wow!

Thanks.

Mine measures the same as the small one.

2 1/4" Overall Length x 1 3/4" Overall Width x 3/8" Thread Size Base

I know that one.

The first one has got me. It looks hand made and old.

I am thinking it has something to do with horses.

Happy Huntin,

No, they still do lots of cruel things to animals in this country. Of course they do in other countries as well but still, WE should know better.

Nature doesn't hold any better of an end for a wild animal than a hunter or trapper can conjure up. Starvation, being consumed alive by carnivors, death by exposure from dehydration and anemia from parasite overload . . . nothing dies peacefully of old age in its sleep in nature.

And hunters are generally opposed to suffering and favor quick kills. Visit a commercial chicken farm some day to see what happens to the day old male chicks if you want to see a lingering and horrible death. Starvation or smothering in a barrel of lye.

Hay Tim,

If it ain't old, somebody should tell all those people buying
antique traps on eBay that they got it all wrong,

Here is two antique traps for sell right now,

april24traps.jpg

So, why is theirs old, and mine is new?

Could you please explain?

I get the impression that your first item has gone through some extreme heat and wondering if it's some kind of mould holder from a blacksmiths/Foundry ?

This is true Charlie P, of course we are supposed to be more refined than those in nature. Very true about the chicken farms :'(
