Do you know anyone that has won the lotto?

massive amounts of money can be a curse rather than a blessing --

I have some kids that work with me who's parents are very well-off. Kudos to them...but the kids are so spoiled rotten. God-forbid they do alittle hard work. Some feel if they just show up for work, they are justified in a pay check!!! Others come in saying they need money to save and buy a car, but when they get to work...they want to go home early! ???

I have met greater folks who did not have a pot to "tinkle" in, whose generosity and kindness is far greater than those who have money to spare and to give!

I may not be rich, but I'll never be poor. Winning the lotto ... well, a pipe dream for many and pure luck on getting the right numbers.

Since the day each of my kids were born, I have put away $2.87 each week (that's .41 a day = 1 quarter, 1 dime, 1 nickel and 1 penny). They don't have alot, but they have enough :)...but if that is all I can leave my kids when I'm am called home...then so be it! (and they don't know I've done this...shhhh!)

As for me winning the lotto...I guess I need to play in order to win. But I figure my chances of getting rich is just saving my change!!! :)

Yeah, me, but it was for about $50 on the NYS Lotto. Got four out of six numbers right. I also know a guy who won about $30K off of NYS Lotto. If I won a hefty amount, I'd let most of it sit in the bank and live off the interest.

I work for a distributor and one of my sales guys for a vendor won Powerball. He bought a place on Cape Cod and is spending most of his time fishing. This guy was one of the best sales people we worked with. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

I don't know anyone who won, the most I have won is $1,200 on pull tabs at the casino, I spent about $20.00 to win it, I mostly like playing scratch offs, I have won $500 twice on those, if I ever do win big I am gona give my parents whatever I still owe to buy my house from them and give my sister and brother in law so they can buy their house from my parents, then I want to go to Pamida and get whatever I have always wanted. And I want to get a dog.

My father's cousin and her husband won 5.2 million in the Wisconsin state lottery years back when I was a kid. Not sure what that is after taxes. I think they went on the 20-year payment plan.

It was kind of a cool story. It went something like this; They had been out together and used their last dollar to buy a lottery ticket using they and their kids' birthdays for the numbers. They were very poor and didn't even have money to put food on the table for the kids.

They went home and somehow the ticket ended up in the trash. She (dad's cousin) saw the numbers on TV and then searched for and found the ticket.....and went crazy.

I'm pround to say that they didn't go crazy like they could have. They actually live VERY modest considering that in rural Wisconsin they could be living like Kings. They bought a plot of land in the country and had a house built. They even had the family reunion that year at their new place.

Other than that, I don't think they changed much. Both of them still work regular country-type jobs.

My mom won $5,000 in the Powerball one time too. That was years ago. She matched 5 of 5 numbers, but not the Powerball. Damn...so close, but so far away.

Cool post idea by the way.

Lottery=a tax for people bad at math. ::)

My ex-wifes sisters brother-in-law won 5.5 million back in 1987, not a dime left! By 1989 he had pissed it all away and has nothing to show for it. Everyone was thrilled at the time for him but now think he's stupid. Easy come, easy'er gone......... And to think I get excited about finding a silver dime!

Never won more than a couple bucks. Though still play when it gets big, like now. $245mil. Even after taxes, it would be enough I guess, lol. I'd try to buy some old land & beach front property and detect my days away, hehe. After putting a huge chunk in the bank to keep for a new detector and stuff muahah

My uncle won $200,000 about 30 years ago and a guy I worked with everyday for about 6 years won $500,000 about 3 years back.

I hit the "lotto" every time i wake up. Every time i see my wifes pretty face. Every time i see the beautifull smile of my grandaughter. Everytime the phone rings and it's my son on the line.(he's in the ARMY) Every time the mailman drops a letter in my slot addressed from my son.

Does anyone know someone who's won that "Publishers Clearing House" thing? My grandma is hooked on that crap! I've wondered if anyone has ever really won that thing...or if it's just a farce to sell magazines.

True story

A kid that works with my sister has some mental hadicaps. He sneaks and plays the lottery every now and then without his parents' knowing about it. Usually isn't a problem because he only wins small amounts. One day he came into work really upset because He had won $500 and he couldn't claim it without telling his parents. My sister took him and claimed the money and gave it all to him secretly over a few months because he could sneak that much money at a time and his parents would never know.

Two months ago he bought a ticket and won $30,000.00 He was so upset and afraid he didn't know what to do. He came back to my sister because she had helped him before. She told him she would help him when she got back from vacation because they were going to have to drive a couple of hours to claim that much money from the lottery people. He said ok. While she was gone he went into the store where he always buys his tickets and told the store clerk he had won the money. She said let me see the ticket and then she told the kid it wasn't a winner. He threw it in the trash at the counter and left. She quit her job, took the ticket and claimed the money. Last I heard the kids family was trying to get his money back from the clerk but I don't think they will ever see a dime of it. >:(

My wife won over $100,000. Ended up clearing $97,000 after taxes. Gave kids money and squandered the rest.

Some co-workers and I split $100,000.00 a few years back. There were 22 of us, about $4,000.00 each.

How very sad that girl took advantage of this young man!!!!! >:( >:( >:( >:( And makes me angry someone could do that...some very cruel folks in this world! They say, "What goes around - comes around"...she will eventually get hers in the end! I hope they do get the money back...but sadly, it sounds like it will be hard to prove.

$30,000 is nothing compared to the hell that lady is going to be put through for ripping that poor kid off. What a piece of work. People like that make me sic.

B,

I hear you....I hope they have a really good judge that realizes this girl took advantage of him!!!! Can't the store give atleast last known addy of her...and can't IRS or FBI or whomever trace her through her bank accounts and/or SS #? I hope they catch this .... well, this girl (I'll be nice in my choice of words). Makes me so mad when I hear of stories where kids, special people and our eldery are taken advantage of and/or mistreated!
