Thanks , just never seen blue rocks in the woods before, but I'm guessing they are pretty common.

The first one looks like slag to me, not 100% tho. I find a lot of slag glass around where I live in Michigan and that looks quite similar. Flint/chert is the most likely tho.

I should have recognized it by that iron oxide crust. The blue MI slag is called Leland Blue I think.

If that is Leland Blue, the only place it can be found is on the Leland peninsula Northwest of Traverse City MI. That's worth some decent $ to a lapidary who knows what they're doing...ppl around here buy that stuff like crazy and at ludicrous prices. That bright blue piece is really gonna fetch some loot :)

It is not Leland Blue. That can only be found in the Michigan area. I shall officially designate it LBL Blue. (For Land Between the Lakes).

Haha LBL Blue...I like it :D

It'll still make some pretty little pieces in the hands of someone who knows how to work it tho

Thanks for the info guys . There was several pieces of this stuff laying around a old dry creek bed makes sense that it was a by product from the old furnaces . There were old ruins that might have been a furnace near by. Thanks again for the replies. So if someone ask what it is I'll just say LBL Blue...ha
