Does gold bearing Quartz really glow?

While touring the old town of Randsburg.The museum guild told me the
the gold bearing quartz from around there, if rubbed together would glow in the dark?We tried it, but then there wasn't any gold we found eather?

They might be referring to UV light? Some quartz sorts will glow under UV light.
