If you manually ground balance correctly you will get more depth. Do it wrong and you get less. Going to all metal gets more depth the same as keeping the coil close to the ground for the whole sweep and not swing it pendulum style.

if you dont have iron mineralization in your soil you cant MB your detector ?
need to keep it in fixed :-\

Not sure if you're right or not ed, but I HAVE been having a heck of a time getting it to balance right.

Yes you can ground balance regardless of the mineraliztion in the soil. That is the purpose, to adjust to the mineralization. You will certainly get more depth in all metal, but it can be frustrating dealing with all of the iron and trash. Large cents really give a good signal, if your ground mineralization isn't too bad, your Cortez in disc mode should find them.
