The boy and I made a trip back to our latest permission where I found the Draped Bust.
My very first hit of the evening was a 84 on the Pro, flipped a plug and had a 1945-P war nickel? My only other finds were some wheats, a toasted brass religious pendant and a big ole toasted flat button, no shank. The old flat button was about the size of a quarter.
The boy finds an old lock, a couple older dog tags attached together 1954 and 1955 and some mystery brass piece.
Had to leave in a hurry when a downpour came through with thunder and lightning.

Old dog tags are cool. We don't see a lot of those out our way. And a silver to boot!!

Nice finds! Thanks for sharing...

I really like that old lock, very cool!

Thanks for posting pics ( front and back ) of your war nick. I think I might recognize one now that I have studied yours. Good finds DS.

Congrats on hunting with your son. Cool relics and a war nickle. I am still half asleep and was looking for military dog tags, then I realized these are real "Dog" dog tags... doh Don't worry I will be okay after I drink my 2nd cup of coffee. :coffee2:

Nice digs. I like your dog tags, very cool.

Love the lock. Nice saves on the coins.

DEERSHED YOU ARE IN FREDERICK OR FREDERICK COUNTY MD. I WAS SAYING IN MY FIRST REPLY THAT YOU WERE 14 MILES AWAY OH HELL NEVER MIND YOU ARE CLOSE BY . THE ONE FIND IN THE LAST PIC LOOKS LIKE AN OLD FFA BUTTON THEY USED TO GIVE OUT IN HIGH SCHOOL. IS THE OTHER A FISHING WEIGHT? ZUTPHEN

This hunt took place outside of Emmitsburg, we live up on the mountain up above Thurmont.
The item on the left in the last pic is a brass disc with a small bump in the middle that looks like where a shank would have been? The item on the right has writing on and is some sort of religious pendant.
The mystery piece is the long brass piece in the pic with the lock. It also has some writing on it we can't make out. There's two hole towards the middle of piece?

As soon as I realized I had a war nickel I thought of this particular "old dude" and laughed to myself. Lol

There are a lot of older men on this site, "old dudes", as you put it... but I know what you mean. Makes you smile broadly, huh?:laughing7:

It will be a sad day when all of this comes to an end.

Again, best of luck to you and the boy!

OK, you got me, I am intrigued by the brass piece. Your other finds are great too! Can you photograph the "writing" on the brass piece so we can give it a crack at ID'ing it please? We like mysteries. It could be a drawer pull, tool handle, etc... Sub 8-)

Hope one "old dude" does find a war nickel, just not too soon. Lol

It's hard getting any good pics but, here's a few.

Very nice lock! Almost looks like it works! Is the long brass item a pen?
