Dogtag Help

Was wading in the local lake this evening.... besides having the hunt of my life(which I cant take pix yet so I wont tell what else I found) I dug a dogtag... I want to return it to the owner... but have no idea how to go about this.. here is the info on it:

DEMSHOCK
W.F. A POS
XXXXXXXXX(number removed as per Sarg. instructions)
USMC M
NO REL PREF


I am thinking that the A POS is the bloodtype, and the person.. was in the Marines, and has no religious Preference... I know the ## is the ID and the person's name is WF DEMSHOCK?

How can I track the person down and get this back to him? I dont think they are very old.. the tag was found less than an inch below surface in about waist deep water

It looks like there are the right amount of numbers there to be a social security number. They were used as your service number when I was in the USMC 73-77. Best of luck in your search.

never thought about an SS #... this would make him older than me(if ss# run in order of birth) mine starts with 284..... so maybe this tag is older than I thought.... the plot thickens

If this helps...based on SS# by States; http://www.mrfa.org/ssn.htm Looks like the dog tag owner is a native of/or had SS# issued by the state of PA.

Good find, I'll see what else I can come up with. I did "Google" the name, and several people with the same last name pops up.

I still need help with this... I found a william demshock in PA but he says it isnt him.... only one listed in 411 for the US..... what do I do now?

I called the VA..... told me I would have to mail em to Georgia... then they would forward to him... I think I am going to send a letter to this Brandee and see what she says.. no # listed ne place
