Went to the bank today to get my boxes of pennies. I stick with the pennies because they are the only ones i can afford to keep right now. Anyways, my brother looked over the counter and said that he sees a 1941 or a 1951 dollar. We decided to ask the teller if we can look over them and turned out that they were all between 1972 and 1979...Now i was wondering which dollars are worth keeping. I know Morgans and Peace one are no-brainers but which ikes should i keep. The blue book says that only the S ones have silver in them but coinflation says that all 1971-76(including 76?) are 40%...Im too confused..

Thanks guys,

Hi misiek,
You are looking at the melt value calculator for silver coins only. There were clad and 40% silver minted in those years. The clad melt calculator is higher on the page.
Happy Hunting!

Also, hang on to any '73p or d dollar coins you may find. They were only issued in Mint Sets; and not intended for general circulation.

So the Ikes with S mintmark are 40%? That's what i though.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Some of the "S" mint-marked Ikes are 40% silver. Others were CuNi. The 40%ers will stand out by their color (typically), much like you'll see with the halves.

Yea youre right I just looked ober the blue book and seems that some S's were not silver. I think ill stick to halves...or pennies
Among my best finds today were the 1893 IH and a 1914 wheat penny...my first 1800's coin.
