Don't be a victim to this bottom feeder

I would like to offer some free advice to fellow Detectorist. Before I do, I’ve read that I’m not allowed to include links to auction sites, so I will attempt to describe this without the link, as best as I can. Please be patient and continue to read as it may save you the dissatisfaction I encountered. Also, this really isn’t about the money, its about the principle of the matter and is actually kind of comical.

There is a rather large, California based auction site where almost any item(s) can be purchased outright or bid upon in typical auction style. On this site, there are literally millions of sellers from every walk of life and while most are fantastic, a few are bordering on being criminals.

One such individual is a kid that goes by the username flyingjoey237. This guy sells guides which amount to electronic files and does so from Pompano, Florida. When I chose to purchase his Secrets of The Excalibur II, it was $10.75, but has been reduced to $8.75 and is still too much to ask.

His item description seemed decent and wanting to learn as much as I can about my Excalibur, it seemed as though it would be a worthwhile investment. Upon submitting an electronic payment, I quickly received an e-mail containing a link for the download. It loaded fairly easy and was viewable within minutes after clicking on the link (so far, so good). Almost immediately after beginning to review this product (?) I knew I had been taken.

The text is based on very poor grammar, usage and spelling. The colored pictures are blurry and at best, grainy. The instructional videos he included are nothing more than links to You Tube and even those are terrible in production. It seems to me, if you didn’t have an Internet connection, you couldn’t watch the videos. If you were already at You Tube, looking for instructional videos, these are the ones you would pass on or click the dislike button.

I spent the required fifteen minutes to watch, view pictures and read the hieroglyphics. Then, ten minutes later I contacted him, demanding a refund. He defensively went on to say I was the only person who ever disliked his guide (of course). We also went back and forth as to why he should refund my money, not understanding my dissatisfaction until I told him I was leaving Negative Feedback. For some reason, that was the only thing I said, that deserved his attention .

He did finally issue a refund and just recently, I finally posted Neutral feedback, rather than Positive which would be encouraging others to fall into his trap (felt it was my civil duty to MD‘ers everywhere).

My Feedback reads, “Requested refund for typo's, blurred pics, overall terrible quality & attitude?” Since leaving that comment, I have just noticed that he replied with, “Glasses help? this buyer will complain fictitiously sold hundreds same product” Now I don’t know about you, but Larry the Cable Guy and I share opinions on this one, "I don’t care who you are, this is just funny right here” I find flyingjoey237's response not only validates my saying he has a bad attitude, but is also comical for many reasons. Here‘s why:

1) Because either flyingjoey237 is saying you should be prepared with glasses prior to viewing and admitting its blurry or, is a licensed Optometrist, in which case I should be thankful for his free eye exam.

2) He says, I’m complaining fictitiously while claiming he has sold hundreds of these. Oddly, the auction site listed he’s only sold three total (as of today). In his e-mail earlier today, he now claims to have sold thousands…He’s been a busy boy.

3) Cleverly, he lists his items as "Private" which make it impossible to see whether it was this guide or other ones he sells and people have complained about.

Whatever you decide, please proceed with caution if dealing with this seller and Happy Hunting.

The fact that the promotional graphic misspells "Excalibur" is a pretty significant context-clue that hints at the outcome.

Noted prior to purchasing the file and agree Mr Morgan. I just found it hard to believe anyone could sell a file that was as bad as this turned out. Since pondering on the lack of quality, I'm guessing he has pirated all of the info from the Internet, to include the YouTube videos. That would also explain the grainy appearance if my assumption is correct and he has indeed, burned it from the Web. As for his lack of business sense and literacy, not certain what happened there, but pretty sure I know what the future will hold for him. :icon_thumright:
