Don't Hunt That Site - Part 3

I went back to that site I was told wasn't worth hunting because it had been totally hunted out by our top THers and here's what I got.

More and in more I'm seeing that Indian cents are easy to miss.

This is part 3 and so far I've gotten 4 Indian cents plus loads of other stuff. I show only a small part of my digs here. I get lots of very old brass buttons that need cleaning to ID.

Happy Hunting.

Badger

Added Note: The Indian cent shown here just beat my all-time record for depth on a U.S. coin. This baby was just over 10 inches deep. To date the deepest was back in 1983 and that also was an indian cent at 9 inches.

I can't wait to see the buttons, how many have you dug? Is that ornate piece a handle to a spoon? 10"? that indian was hiding out for sure! Keep hitting that site!

Thanks.

I think the large ornate thing is the weight to a pendulum clock. A house burned down at this site back about the turn of the century. I have heard it was a great tragedy.

As for the buttons I've got a drawer full and need to clean em up soon. Lots of brass buttons around here.

Got idea, after the ground softens some go back and dig those dip signals.

Here in Michigan we have that easy sandy soil so digging in most areas is a piece o cake.

But lately I have found out that many of those super faint signals are great finds.

Me thinks your shovel is getting a weather beaten there Badger. Should take better care of your tools. Yuk, yuk.

Thats what I've been doing lately. On my Cibola I've been listening to the faint one way clicks and spits and digging any that repeat. I also have been supertuning it and it helps. So far I dug that cool token and last night I got a couple wheaties that were just audible one way. Very interesting!!!!

I never get tired of reading your "Don't hunt that site" posts.
Hope there are many more instalments in the near future.

Badger,
Great finds. I have a suggestion. To clean that Indian and leave the nice patina, get a regular white potato and cut a slit in it. Stick that coin in there for a day or two. You will freak at how much this helps. It only removes the crud and green stuff, but leaves you a nice natural coin. Be sure to clean it with a soft toothbrush in between treatments and afterwards. You will thank me later.

I do all my ugly wheats and have even done an Indian Head myself.
