Yes, we are currently searching a Roman Site for the 2nd time from a 90 degree angle. Finding loads we missed.well
a lot of bullets
and this two coins that are not new for me
but its great finding them in the same place where i've checked before.
i was wondering if it depends on the direction you go.
once i read somwhere to search area from different directions so u search from different angles.
it seams true.

next time i will bring the wet wipes with me.
If a site is producing, I do the whole site using my stock 9" x 11" DD coil going east to west on a grid and then I re-grid it and hit it from north to south. I then come back with my 12" x 15" butterfly coil to see if I missed anything on the 1st 2 passess. Eventually I go back later and go all metal mode digging the deep iron and foil targets, since deep coins might ring in as iron or foil.
The direction can make the difference on how a target rings in, especially if it in the ground at an angle or possible masked by other metal objects.
Hi Crus, you're right.
have you seen this one? i found it in the mountains in a abandoned village in Albania.View attachment 1259428
No sorry, looks like it has a Prussian / Hungarian look or Austrian??
I just save space & carry spit.A bottle of water out in the field does wonders...
Not only to drink... but to dribble on your finds.
I carry 2 bottled waters in a snap pouch on my backside of my belt...
hanging over my arse which is the best spot and most comfortable spot for me...
Does not get "in the way"... and hardly even know its there...
UNLESS your belt sucks.
Anyway...
"joggers" water bottles... that have "squirt" cap are ideal.
It is the best way to clean your finds in the field...
Especially ones like what you just found.
No "wiping" ... or "rubbing"...
OR guessing at a dirt clod.
And now...
another "bone" I will throw you...
A spray paint can lid is an ideal item to act as a "bowl" that holds / props items... especially great for bigger coins...
They are lightweight... most are indestructible...
and they have a "raised chamber" inside the cap that can be used to "prop" up the item for a better rinse and an easier "grab" and flip etc.
Drill a hole in the cap at the rim 1/2 inch... some string... hang it.
Got what I invented and call the "dip cup".
AKA... The Diggers Dip Cup.
:P
