Found this a while back in Southern California close to a river where Native Americans once used.
Also close to a ranch house from 1870s

I happened to dig it up while metal detecting.

Its a rolled clay "tube" with small fingerprints. Broken on one side and two holes on the other end.

Any idea what it might have been, And whether or not it is likely to be Native American?
Looks like a whistling bunghole

Wish I could help more because it’s definitely an interesting find. My gut feeling is not Native American but I can’t exactly say why.
