Finally decided to stop at an old house I drive by all the time and ask for permission to detect. After talking with the owners for a bit, I got the go ahead. They weren't sure exactly when the house was built, but I'm pretty sure it's early 1800s. Apparently there used to be parties/graduation ceremonies in the yard, as the house was affiliated with a local school system.
I've made 3 trips there over the past couple of days and needless to say I'm a little disappointed. Besides 2 wheaties, I didn't find a single older coin. It's a fairly large yard and I gridded it multiple times but just can't seem to find anything older than the 1940s
.
I can definitely believe that there used to be parties at the house. I have never found so many pull tabs at a single property. Pictured are the 45...yes, 45 pull tabs I found along with a bunch of bottle caps. I try to dig everything at these places cause you never know what you're going to find. Hard to believe I passed up around 50 other pull-tab type signals along the way.
I got another pull tab signal that was definitely more solid and repeatable than most of the other ones. I finally ended up digging one of the only rings I've ever found, and it turns out to be a 10K men's class ring from 1973. It has the initials inscribed on the inside and I hope I can track down the former owner...
Found a ton of clad, and most of it was pretty deep. Just wondering if the old stuff is too deep for me to find, or if it's something to do with the soil conditions here. This marks the 2nd time this summer I've hunted a really old virgin site, and the 2nd time I've been pretty much skunked in the old coin department.
Also found a duck.
