I had a great hunt between the rain storms. I went back to a place I found a 1797 cartwheel penny at the end of last year. I focused on the one section of the yard that I found it on. I only had a coupe hours and the best finds were two silver George v dimes, a silver 1917 five cent piece, a 1861 Nova Scotia one cent, a 1891 Canadian one cent, a crotal bell and four buttons. Two of the buttons are local Halifax militia buttons. During the reign of George iii some small local regiments were created aside from the main English military. The small one is the exact same as one I dug last year and I posted on here before that dates from the late 1700’s to the early 1800s and most likely is rare because of how small the halifax militia was. It has a big 1 in the middle and says “Halifax reg of militia”. Now the second bigger dome button came as a shock when I cleaned it off because it’s another Halifax militia but seems from a slightly later time frame because it’s a dome button style. It has a big 4 in the middle and says “Halifax regiment of militia”. I never heard of this regiment and I can’t find any info on it yet so if anyone knows anything and a possible date to the style of button it would be appreciated. I wish they were in better shape but at least they are easily readable so i guess I can’t ask for more than that. The last object I dug is a strange little pin/button thing the has a symbol and the letters USF on it. Maybe someone knows what it is. Thanks for looking and maybe the rest of that yard will hold more goodies for me to find next time! [emoji16][emoji106]
