So we took advantage of the balmy weather here in Massachusetts and went to hunt a partially drained pond near a park we hunt. As you would think, the bottom was littered broken glass, pull taps, bottle caps on other junk. However going slow pays off even with the 11” coil. I pulled up 8 wheaties, some other clad, a cool token from Menters (1913-1954) a glass bottle stopper, a KGII (1755 I think) and a very small catholic medallion.

I was wondering if anyone has ever dug a medallion like this one, super thin and small. It has written “ Congregation du saint enfant Jesus “ on one side and “ congregation pray for us” on the other. Mind you, the town I live in is heavy Irish catholic and Roman Catholic and I dig a TON of religious stuff and I have never seen this one sooooooo if someone could enlighten me, that would be great.
Thanks for watching, GL&HH

I love the way you guys call lakes ponds. I get it...the great lakes are lakes. I had great luck at a drained "pond" many years ago. I'd keep gong until they fill it again. Dig all the trash as you don't know what it is hiding. Maybe even try digging a trench in areas you think should be productive.
Grats on the finds and good luck next time out!

I call it a pond because I can’t spell reservoir. Whoa, I just did!! I love spell check!! Anyway, it is a pond, it’s called (—————) pond. I don’t want to give the name because we can’t have you left coasters flying in diggin all our stuff. As for the trench, probably would go over well with the folks that live on the pond and it’s very very rocky. We have 3 of us going again tomorrow, I’ll bet we find much more. The park near by is nicknamed “Barber park” due to the amount of Barber dimes and quarters we’ve found there among lots of other silver and old coins. I’ll post more when/if I get it and it doesn’t freeze solid again.

Interesting finds

I love that token hope someone IDS that pendant thing that looks very interesting I found a gun in a bag at the bottom of a pond once. is the ground wet and muddy or dry enough not to sink in. Great finds be careful of all that glass even with gloves. Tommy

Love that copper. Now I am scratching my head trying to think of a partially drained pond (or lake) in my area. Wish I had a Barber park where I live.Congrats!

I've dug 3 of those medallions on private farms
on the Chancellor battlefield.
two were copper and one is silver
I'm not saying they are from the battle , just saying where they were found.
A local relic shop offered $ 100 for the silver one. I gave it to my mother who was Catholic .
I've never done any research on them . nice finds .

Now that's what I call taking advantage of special local conditions. Your drained pond proved a major winner! I'm impressed that you pulled out that KG2. Regarding the medallion..I've never come across one quite like that. Great finds!

Well done, congrats! :icon_thumleft:

Joe dirt nice finds! Google translate says...Congregation of the Holy Child Jesus. Hope that helps.

Great finds and good luck tomorrow. I bet there's more silver and rings!

keep it up...75116520c59bcbc9e4.gif

You are a lucky dog. That pond bottom is almost virgin ground. I hope they keep the water down a while for you. No telling what else is waiting for you.

You ever search the other side of the dam?

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Nice going. Can't believe you pulled a KGII out of the muck!

You ever search the other side of the dam?
The other side of the dam used to be some firearms factories in the 1880’s and is the original body of water. The side we hunt was made made in the 1840’s from what we can find out.
