Dredged Chert

I was hunting a site for fossils, where they deposit dredged sand and I found this. At first I thought it was a vertebra of some kind, but then it occurred to me that it was a rock. After looking at it a bit, I think it may be a piece of chert. The removed cortex near the top looked similar to some types, and I could flake parts of it with a nail. Do you guys think it’s chert, and if it is could it be associated with a submerged site? Sound kind’ve far-fetched, but thanks for reading regardless! .

It's a sedimentary rock for sure. Chert is sedimentary. Looks like it might be a small tabular piece of chert from the edge pic. Gary

Thanks for the replies, I think you’re right. It looks similar to other Chert I found.
