I was shocked when I found this duck band! I was looking for some pieces of pottery near one of the Indian mounds on the water came across the band. Being a avid duck hunter I couldn't believe my eyes! I was as excited as I get when I see a band on a duck that I kill hunting! I called it in and it was a double crested cormorant banded in 1990 in Killarney Canada! 21 years old!

cool find! congrats

Great job to follow up, very cool....

Sweet! Your hunting buddies outta get a kick out of that one.

Yeah my little brother isn't allowing this band to go towards my band count! I disagree but what are the chances?!!

The only good Cormorant is a dead Cormorant as far as I'm concerned. They pretty much devistated the fishery on Oneida Lake in New York State a few years ago. They eat pounds and pounds of fish each day...walleyes, perch, panfish, bass, babies and full grown fish. It doesn't matter, you name it and they'll probably eat it!

Nice! Still awaiting my first duck band... season's coming soon!
Would be cool to find one with a detector too. Eye found a pigeon band while crow hunting this past spring.

I wouldn't have known what that was if I'd found it. You were the right person to find this.

Yeah I knew exactly what it was but I couldn't believe it! I need to get a metal detector and go band hunting! Cormorants are pretty useless and you can't do anything about it, legally. However I'm sure they serve some purpose. I would imagine they would have a fishy taste due to their diet. I already hear the woodies in the swamp and the teal zipping by! It's crazy how many ducks probably fly of and die with that steel shot you have to use. I would be willing to bet that 100 times more birds fly off and die with steel than ducks dying from bottom feeding and getting lead poison...
