It is indeed a v nickel stamp... but not an actual mint die ... i think not anyway... perhaps a counter one. or some publicity stamp or stamp for paper / flyers made up... some printing press stamp in other words.

Not sure what it is. Could it be a coin die stamp?
Found in a old park. A bit wider than a genuine V nickel. Weighs 7.4 grams.
I.D. was 74-75 with the Deus2.
If this was a counterfeit die why cut the stamp part off?
Why not just toss out the whole die.
The US mint would have destroyed the stamp part from being used for counterfeiting.

Still not 100% sure if genuine.

Either i wrote the above in such a way to be misunderstood... oR you did not fully read it....
either way doesn't matter...

What does matter is from here... So... here goes... :)

To answer / explain the "cut off part" would at best be only a guess... maybe this was done on a "rod" of material and then cut from said rod to be attached by glue to whatever handle or whatever to stamp.. which is what IMO your item is... a stamp... nothing more... not a "die"... like i stated above.

This is not a mint item... this is / was IMO a made item for printing... nothing more... again IMO.

Hope you find out.

Could of been used to stampp numerous types of thin non-ferrous materials.
Foils, this sheet.
ARC was correct in what the item was and I concur its a stamp.
Very cool recovery 👍

Yeah it could have been used as a stamp for thin metals.

I remember that "No cents" V nickels were sometimes colored and passed off as $5 gold pieces.....could it have anything to do with counterfeiting?

JFI... stamps like this were and are used for simple printing.

Brass was the preferred material but may types were made and used.

It could have been something simple as for "flyers"... for a show or circus... and it was 5 cents to get in... OR... could have been for making a coin shop's flyer and was one of the designs used in that making. etc etc etc

Ok, it’s a stamp.
Cleaned it up a bit.
