I dug for a very short time Wednesday at my father's house near the coast. The house was built around 1900, and I had previously found some Wheaties and an Indian Head penny there. This time around, I dug a nice token. For a brief second, I thought I had a Large Cent, even though that seemed unlikely given the property age. I soon figured out it was something different when I saw the image of what turned out to be Captain Myles Standish of Pilgrim fame. The token celebrates the 300th anniversary of the founding of Duxbury, which is just north of Plymouth. Captain Standish was a co-founder of the town in 1637. The token is dated 1937 and is apparently made of brass. It has kept its details well for having spent about 80 years underground. Not a precious metal or a valuable item, but one of my more interesting finds. Happy hunting!
