For whatever it's worth to hear... in my opinion, after doing micro-examination of the eagle emblem on your button, I'm sure it is the 1854-1874 version -- not the 1875-1902 version.

Thank you for that info CannonballGuy. Helps me out a lot! I write everything you tell me down in a notebook. I'm a 32 y/o wife and mother of 4. This is a hobby I picked up that has turned into passion! I hate I'm on here asking tons of questions but I'm slowly learning the ropes :) Hard to lookup something when 4 kids are pulling on you ;) Appreciate all of your past help CannonballGuy :)

You're welcome. :) A suggestion... save educational images, not just posts. For example, here's a photo showing side-by-side comparison of the US Army "eagle buttons" of 1854-74, 1875-1901, and from then to the present.

I created a folder on my computer just for "relic images." The first word in the filename tells the basic category (such as button or bullet or buckle or coin), followed by more-specific details.

Great idea! Thanks! I just got through with making new files. I also have a closet full of copper and brass relics from old 1800's-1900's house sites. I'm sifting through trying to distinguish scrap from the good. Yikes! Thanks again CannonballGuy :)
