Eagle Button with a D

Eagle button with a "D". Found in Petersburg amongst other civil war relics. I think the Dragoons had been phased out by the civil war; maybe a veteran re-enlisted or was drafted and wore an old coat? Interested in your take on it.

According to Albert's button book, the Dragoons were not converted to Cavalry until August, 1861.So it is reasonable that there were a lot of cavalrymen that retained their Dragoon uniforms or buttons during the war. Nice button.
