I went out for a couple of hours yesterday. The weather was overcast and high 50s... just perfect. I got a few wheaties and a hand full of clad, but nothing overly interesting.

I got a deeper signal, in the 70s... maybe an Indian... maybe. I dig a hole, flip the plug and see the back of a two piece brass button. I pull the button out, and am surprised to see an eagle on the front. There is even an imprint of the button in the plug!

I get all excited, thinking that I have found a Civil War button... but, alas, it was not to be, upon closer examination, it appears that I have a general service eagle button from 1875 thru 1902. If this is not correct, please let me know. Here is what it looks like after a very careful cleaning.

Thanks for looking, and best of luck on your hunts!

That's a great find Tom. That's reaching back a bit. If nobody else ID's it by the time I get home this afternoon I'll look it up in my book bro. Cheers and Happy New year.

That's a good looking eagle!

Sweet button even if not CW, Congtats!!
I like that impression it left in the dirt.

Hello CT. That is nice find. Pre-dates the GS buttons I dig here in FL. Good Luck. C9

WTG Tom, congrats on the eagle button. :occasion14: It's a good day when you pull a keeper or two. Hope you had a great Christmas.
