So I hit my local honey hole today despite it being really hot out. It has been pounded but I managed to find a few keepers one of which is my first eagle button! Hopefully somebody can chime in as to what period they think it's from. From browsing different buttons online I think it may be a general infantry button from 1854-1875?

I've always understood that the date range on these was Civil War - Indian Wars - circa 1861-1877 or so

Late 19th century and before 1902. Looks like it could be from after the Civil War (1861-65), since there doesnt appear to be an initial in the shield, but I am no expert. Great find.

Looks to be a CW general service button. Too date it for sure, you'll need to read the back mark and an expert should know, which I am not.
Nice find!

If you don't mind, what is the Back Mark?
98% It's Civil War Gen Service, & Seems to be larger than a Cuff. But???

Unfortunately I cannot make out the back mark. I'm going to look at it under magnification later... hopefully I can make out some of the writing. Do you know what size they typically are? The other button in the picture was very tiny so it may be deceiving.

It looks like I can see Scovill, or at least part of it (?)

Very nice, well done!!! Congrats and HH

Yep, Civil War.

I agree with Relic Nut and the rest. It is Civil War General Service. If it were Infantry, it would have the letter I on the shield.
