early 1900's Prison camp *UPDATE*

I've been wanting to hit this site for a while now, finally did today.
Got a 1933 MASS license plate 0846, 3 bullet casings, and a weird ID band of some sort.
I have no clue what the bullet casings are except for the second bottom mark shown in the pictures.
Also, the ID band reads 28381 MB, any help on that would also be appriciated.
1st bullet read L C 56
2nd i know what it is :tongue3:
3rd reads R A 53

I will try to clean off the plate alil more, try to make it alittle purdy :tongue3:

Thanks for looking ;D

Update: after some cleaning, the number on the plate isnt 0846 its 108461 :tongue3:
I always thought millitary blanks had the tips pinched where the bullet would go... also, u have anyidea on the RA one?
The RA headstamp would be Remington Arms (1953) 30-06

Re: early 1900's Prison camp *UPDATE*

all of them are blanks, the ones with the larger diameter throat might have had a paper or wood bullet at the end....they are all probably 30-06 caliber....

the wood or paper bullet was used for function not for hitting a target

The two taller casings appear to be 30-06, and they don't look like they were blanks, the shorter casing is definitely not 30-06, as the shoulder is not nearly high enough.

**EDIT** I just noticed, that last photo of the casing, note that the primer has not been hit, you may have a live blank on your hands.

I am comparing the shoulder height, notice that 2 of the casings share the same shoulder height. Also, if you were to look at a regular, run of the mill 7.62x51(NATO) blank casing, it would appear to be much shorter that the 30-06 shell, as opposed to the one you have, that appears to be taller.

ohhh ok, but the other people said the ones with higher shoulders where the real ones and the other one was a blank... :icon_scratch::icon_scratch: im sooo confused

Re: early 1900's Prison camp *UPDATE*

my mistake earlier saying they were all the same caliber, but all three appear to be blanks because of the style of the crimp.... here is a picture borrowed from the website that I mentioned earlier(notice the one to the far right)... ...but again cool finds...keep them coming.

Gotcha, my bad, the (2) 30-06 casings indeed appear to be blanks.
