Nice hammered coin, all I can tell you is that its at least 17th C & not British.

Perhaps hammered Spanish maravedis copper with a few add'l counter stamps. They're know to frequently have them. Congrats - hammered copper in the US is a tough feat!
 
Scrappy is exactly right, it's an early spanish copper with value adjustments (VIII for 8 maravedis) made probably around the 1650's, the copper coin itself is older
 
Congrats on the early copper, it's an interesting one that's for sure.
