I live on a hillside that was logged in the early 1900s. These finds are from various spots on the hillside, and I need help figuring out exactly what they are. The spikes look to be blacksmith made, and the one on the far left was found in a stream, which explains why it's in such great shape. They were all found in the same spot. The odd looking object has been through electrolysis, just so I could try and get an idea of what it was. There is some writing on it and it reads "MAX. 25. 73" I still don't know. I think it may be a part of a scale? It was found right beside a 100 year old springboard notched cedar stump. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Any idea on the age? How it worked? I'm looking online trying to find anything about cable splice units and I'm not finding much.

The spikes are cribbing spikes, used to fasten large pieces of lumber together.
