I found this place about a week ago. Spent the day there today. I found an early navy officers button and another button that has what appears to be independence hall on it and 1756 which happens to be when it was completed!! I also found a piece of lead with stars in a banner on it. Also a few small buckles and a ring with blue glass i assume. The rectangle piece with rope and bars is interesting looks like it could be military. Any info on this item and the independence button would be greatly appreciated. On the walk out I found the red cross button. Backmark the gustave fox co. Pretty good day overall. Thanks. I apologize for the sideways pictures. I dont understand why they load that way. 20170129_191158.webp20170129_185630.webp20170129_185435.webp20170129_185424.webp20170129_185819.webp20170129_185531.webp20170129_185540.webp

Can't help on the IDs but nice finds! :icon_thumleft:

Super Sweet Site & Finds, Man! I'd hunt there every chance I could.
The I .Hall Button is Very Nice.

No help with ID but congrats on some nice finds

On the back of the hall button, have you figured out what the material is, is it bone?

Also, what does the back of the anchor button look like, back marked?

Great hunt! The rectangular bar looks like a lieutenant's rank insignia bar. Nice find!!

The back is the same material as the rest of the button I assume. I havnt had time to clean the back of the navy button much but heres a pic. Very cool! 14858253258371258150918.webpATTACH=CONFIG]1408912[/ATTACH]

Ok gotcha
the pics helped, your buttons are what one could expect at an early 1800s site, keep looking I'm sure your site still has some more great finds hiding there

I believe your Independence Hall item is from the 1876 Philadelphia International Expo , also called the Independence Exposition (or World's Fair, even though they didn't yet call them that), and that it says 1776 (the centennial of independence, rather than the hall itself).
The construction is interesting... is that a hem weight they used in there? It made me wonder if it was a button, since one wouldn't be able to utilize the crossbar to thread it on with the front in place. I saw a few holed tokens from this event which it is evident were not solid (they were dented), and I wondered if this might have been one of these, which originally had the liberty bell on the back.
On the other hand, I did find an image of just one very similar button, but couldn't access the old listing. If you cut and paste the following into a google search you'll see it:
Antique Lapel Button, 1876 Independence Hall, RARE, BOOK Piece

Congrats on some nice finds and on finding a good site to work.

Yeah i had assumed it was 1776. But after cleaning, its has a clear 5 on it. I saw the same ebay listing but it wouldnt work for me either. Looks like a hem weight doesn't it. Its not though. Cool reguardless of what it is.

Can't help with the button, but I agree with Palmetto P. The rectangular bar appears to be a lieutenant rank (2nd LT actually because it is gold color). All nice finds.
