Earth's surface gold delivered by meteorites 3.9 billion years ago

Current age of the earth is about 4.55 billion years old.
Some may question the reliability of that date. Part of the solution is the age of indium isotopes, which were delivered to the earth (along with most other platinum-group metals) at about the same time. An isotope of indium has a half–life of over 1 billion years. So accurate dating of ancient rock is better done by indium isotopes than most other methods.
