Hey guys,

Found this lock keyhole cover that appears to have a GR PATENT with what resembles a crown on top. I am familiar with GR on East India Trading Company muskets, but had never seen one on a lock. Any ideas??

Not East India Company specific. They used a rampant lion mark. Crown over G R would be King George III, I think. So late 1700's - early 1800's...

Lock

A similar find made last Saturday in SC--site was part of Sherman's March--never rebuilt after 1865. I have it in electrolysis--which may reveal some more data.

"Patent"......British. Probably mid 1800's.

Also British. Not super up on the British dates. Somewhere from mid to latter part of the 1800's. Used that design for quite some time. Like previously stated....initials on the keyhole drop (GR,VR) denote the king or queen and will help with the date range. You're welcome.
