Indian artifacts in eastern North Carolina are few and far between. There are no natural rocks in our area (just pine forests, swamps, black dirt fields, rivers, and the largest brackish sound in the world ... Albemarle Sound. To my knowledge there have been some Indian artifacts found here such as stone ax heads, spear/arrow points, and clay pottery shards. The stone tools and points were probably obtained by trading with neighboring tribes that had access to stones about 50-75 miles to the west. The piece I am asking about today was found last Sunday while walking a white sand beach area of the Albemarle Sound. It is somewhat shaped like a point but I have little knowledge on the subject and would appreciate the opinion of the viewers of this forum. Thanks for looking.

Looks like a broken Hardaway, and you're in the right area for them. Hardaway are a pretty damn old point type. Very nice find.

Yeah kind of looks like a broken up Hardaway. Im not to far from you and I just found a Hardaway the other day. Im about 45 min east of Raleigh. Have you found any shell mounds or anything around your area. Keep looking you will find more.

Hey tacoma ... I'm about another hour east of you in the town of Columbia. Most of the Indian artifacts that have been found in my area were found in plowed fields near waterways or actually in the water/beach. The reason I was at the area where I found the point was to follow up on some research about an 1860's farm house site that eroded into Albemarle Sound that I want to metal detect. I was walking the shore and finding pottery shards from the homesite and wow ... there was a white shiny rock sticking out of the sand. I have since learned that another point very similar to the one I found was discovered there a few months ago. I will be going back for a close look again very soon. Thanks for getting back to me and if you are down my way stop in and chat with me at my store ... Flemz Market & Deli in Columbia ... Jimmy
