Looks like a gag loop for horse bridle.

I thought that also, at first. But, can you imagine trying to stop nearly a ton of horseflesh by yanking back, full force, on something this frail? I'm suspecting a sword hanger? But, I am the absolute worst when it comes to relics like this. I defer to the experts.

I thought it was easy. :icon_scratch:

Many gag loops/swivels were even thinner than that, you really dont pull that hard on a gag bit or any bit.
I could be wrong on the I.d. Though.

In the picture the horse shoe looks like it's aluminum. If so, it's a horse shoe that's called a racing plate, and was used on a race horse.
