I just wanted to throw this out here that I'm selling my kids on eBay! Now that we got that out-of-the-way for those who ask if that's what I was going to do....

For the last six months I have been doing this with my children and it has worked very well.. And I wanted to share. My oldest daughter is nine and my son is seven. My other daughters three and she gets whatever she wants anyways so none of this applies to her.. But the older two always want money for something else or to go with their friends or for a candy bar at the store.

So as long as they do their chores and their homework for the week on Friday or Saturday morning they can give me one or two dollars max. I don't pay them for chores during the week because I believe they should do what they're told and help out the family. But when they give me their money on the weekend I use it to take garage sailing.

So here's how this works. If they give me a dollar or two and I buy something for them that I will sell on eBay. . Toys or a piece of jewelry or whatever but the max is two dollars. When the item sells eBay fees and PayPal plus shipping or whatever else is taken out of whatever it sold for. Half of the money they get goes into their savings account no questions asked. The other half they get to keep. Now with the half they get to keep they have a choice of either keeping all of it or if they put it into their savings account. Whatever they decide to put into their savings I match it.

So I just wanted to throw this out there in case anyone was deciding they are trying to figure out how to save money for the kids or just an easier way, this has worked for us we tried it for the last couple of months. The biggest benefit is they are smart so they do put money into their savings which I do match. They love going to the bank to deposit it themselves. And the biggest bonus is when we go out somewhere they're not begging in line for stuff for at the store they're not screaming and hollering or crying because they want something and I'm not buying it for them. They can decide if they want to spend their money or not. But if they do not do their chores for the week or get a bad grade on their tests at school or argue and talk back they don't have the option of giving me the money to spend at the end of the month. Thanks for reading all this and have a good night.

I like this idea. Kind of like what I do with my son. I take him picking and let him make his own deals. We have a code we use in which I tell him what to buy and the max to pay for it. He usually gets a great deal as he is only ten. Once the item is home he cleans it up and I list it for him. Whatever it sells for I give him and I absorb the fees for him. He is also required to save almost all of it in his savings account and or mutual fund. For a ten year old he has a lot of money invested!

That's pretty awesome. Does he have his own retirement account set up or is it a mutual fund under your name? Because I'm pretty interested in learning about that. Because the money he puts in his savings account when he turns 18 is only worth like five dollars more than it is now at this rate...

I would like to take my kids with me and taking my daughter is fine but when I take my son that boy he has to Pee at every house. He pulled that one time we went out at for houses in the morning dad I got to use the bathroom!!! Come on we don't have time for this we need to go to the next house!!! So when he gets older maybe but at seven no way! I like to leave at about 7 AM maybe 645 he likes asleep until about noon already! Or until his three-year-old sister wakes him up. Definitely interested in hearing about the mutual fund thing! Thanks!

It's just invested in growth stock mutual fund. Not retirement as he doesn't qualify for a Roth because he has no earned income. If I was you I would look at the vanguard s&p 500 fund. Almost no fees and does whatever the market does.

Will do. I have a Roth IRA myself with E*TRADE but I think I can probably do a separate one for them that's not in my Roth IRA just in the regular security sections I believe. I'm not sure if they offer Vanguard through E*TRADE or not but there's probably something similar. Thanks!

You can buy direct from vanguard. No need for a broker. Check the long term history and the costs involved with whatever you invest in.

That is a great option as well...depending on what the government does in the near future...

I'll check him out too. I did buy one stock, then put the rest in their savings. I'll probably do that for awhile. Kinda Half and half.

I'm glad you are going to check him out. He created school curriculum that is used in thousands of high schools around the country.

I just watched a lady who was a single mother of three who paid off her house 22 months after her husband passed away. And we make good amount of money and were struggling. I think it's time to reality check our priorities and bills.

I listen to him on iheart radio as well as podcasts every chance I get. I hear many, many, many callers that have done similar things. Every time I listen I learn something new...trust me his ways work.

I went through the process of reality check as well as priorities as well a few years ago. Today I'm in a much better position
