Hi All,

I received this along with a number of other coins from a close family friend many years ago.
Does anyone have any idea what it is? It looks almost like it's nickel.

Not an expert on this topic, but.. I'm going to bet the house on not an authentic Egyptian coin. Couldn't find a single example of an ancient Egyptian coin even close to this. It has all the makings of a fun souvenir or costume-type piece though.

Now I will cross my fingers for you that someone comes along and tells me I'm an idiot and owe you a house. Would love for you to have the real deal; sure would beat anything I've ever owned (and ever will).

That said, it reminds me of the time when I was about 10 years old and a man my parents were friends with had just returned from Japan. Knowing that I loved coins he had brought me back one which he said was several hundred years old. I cherished that coin like you wouldn't believe and hoped that one day that treasure would bring me joy on a good day or fortune on a bad one. Well now that the internet is what it is, I was able to determine that not only was it not several hundred years old, it wasn't even as old as the guy who gave it to me. Not only that, but it was next to worthless pocket change that he could have picked up at any old shop in Tokyo while buying a Coke.

Here's to the possibility that your coin is real, valuable, ancient, and rare!

If it doesn't work out, I'll buy you a steak dinner next time you're in town. How's that?

looks like a piece from a board game. you can tell in the first pic that it is cast (rather than hammered) by the un-even line around it's edge. Besides, ancient Egypt did not use a money based bartering system

The oldest Egyptian coins were Attic staters and tetradrachms having the name and types of Alexander; none, to my knowledge, had the appearance of this 'coin'.
Don.......
