I haven't found any silver at thrift stores in a couple of years (with the exception of a few glass/silver coaster sets which seem to be everywhere). The stores are really good about picking the silver out or the competition among pickers makes silver hard to come by.
I went to an upscale thrift store that never misses anything and found this cool plate for $12.95. Having just researched some Persian and Ottoman pieces, I took a gamble that this was not silver-plated brass and bought it.
It is unmarked, but I acid tested it in two spots and got positive results. It weights 188 grams.
Strange--I didn't polish it, but either the donor or the store did because it has been recently polished.
