Either Found a Telephone Pole or a HUGE METAL BOX on the beach

Please help. Found this big metal box about 3 feet down at the beach. I believe there used to be telephone poles in this area. Also found this ceramic piece while digging down to the pole which I think might be a ceramic insulator. Any Opinions?

I agree with the glazed pipe, high tension insulators are made of ceramic. Don't know about the box, pirates? :icon_pirat:

metal transformer boxes * used to be on telephone poles --be very careful the oil used in the old transformers often contianed PCB'S --

I can't see the metal box in either photo. That type of clay duct/pipe, or very similar, is commonly used for sewer pipes/drains and also for telephone company "duct runs" (conduit runs between manholes/vaults/buildings/etc). Worked 10yrs w/phone company, 6yrs as electric lineman.
