Engraved Script?

Any experts in engravers script out there who can figure out the monogram? At least I think its initials, could be just a design i suppose. Also, are these type of buttons common finds?

These are the best pics I could get, its much clearer from a side angle.. There is no back mark.

Well, to get the ball rolling, I'll say JC - but would recommend you do a rubbing with pencil on paper over it, to see if that will help clear it up, and let us look at it straight on.
