I showed the men's pinky ring with diamond to a knowledgeable friend who examined it with a loop and said the stone had no defects and I should have it checked out. I took it to a jeweler for an appraisal on her recommendation.

excellent - just remember - appraisals are usually for insurance replacemnent and not its true value

I usually figure the true value to be 1/3 the appraisal value.
