Equinox 800 vs. 900

I am wondering how these compare to each other, the pros and cons. I'm inclined to believe the 900 is better based on what I've heard, but I don't want to make that assumption because that might cause a bias in any replies.

I don't have an 800 but have and use a 600 and 900 . I think the 800 was a more adjustable 600 (but not more powerful)but the 900 is definitely a more powerful machine than the 600 .

I'm going to get an Equinox 900 that comes with an 11" coil and a 6" coil.

Will this 11" coil stiffener fit on the 6" coil as well? Assuming both coils take the same lower shaft, I would think so but I want to be sure.

If I could go back in time I would buy the 600, as the 800 is essentially the same machine but pointlessly more expensive. The 900 is even more expensive, but uses demonstrably superior technology to the 600/800. So for the money if I needed a detector, I would go with either the 900 for its superior technology or a 600 for its superior price.

The 900 is even more expensive, but uses demonstrably superior technology to the 600/800. So for the money if I needed a detector, I would go with either the 900 for its superior technology or a 600 for its superior price.

I'm going to get an Equinox 900 to replace my 800.

This time I'm going to:

1. Get a metal detecting bag to carry it
2. Get some zip ties of various lengths in case of emergency
3. Get JB Weld epoxy in case the ears break off again
4. Unscrew the nuts at the end of the lower shaft to relieve pressure on the coils ears after each use
5. Carry extra grommets/washers
6. Get a fanny pack to carry these extra emergency items
7. Take out the pinpointer battery after each use, so the pinpointer lasts longer just in case that helps
8. Disconnect the Equinox 900 battery after each use, so the Equinox lasts longer just in case that helps
9. Make sure I never leave my Equinox 900 and pinpointer in the car for an extended period of the time due to excessive heat. Just leave it in the hotel room if I'm doing something else when I'm at the beach.
10. After each use at the beach, immediately rinse off the Equinox 900 and pinpointer with freshwater
11. After each use at the beach, get all sand out of tight spaces (use a paint brush) such as skid plate (after removing it) and between each shaft (disconnect each shaft/rod first) and behind the control pod where the speakers are

I'll back you up on that !! My 600 was (now broken coils) fantastic, once i got used to it !! ... Took some pretty abusive treatment from me, and found everything. Hunted with guys with far more expensive machines including the Mantie,, and apart from a few modern gimmicks it performed as good as the others,,, no apparent depth issues , also slightly better at dumbing down Iron grunts,, towards the end of the first season the Manticore owner would ask me to have a quick swipe over his targets, as he was sick of digging nails and crap... So i have to agree, the balance cost/performance/quality with the Equinox 600 was absolutely spot on !!

I read your post and thought I am sure glad I bought a Deus 9 yrs ago instead of another Minelab.
No worries about discharging batteries, tabs breaks.

If you use the Equinox 900 underwater without headphones, can you still hear a tone if you get a signal?

Moreover, what are the best settings to use for the beach?
