This one's really nice. The coins just a tiny bit off center I don't even keep.

Ok here you go. First is a 1971 half. Has a dent on the left of the obverse and the bottom center to right of the coin is sheared off. Reverse shows the other side of the dent as a protrusion. Looks like when the coin was lifted up, the dent/protrusion caused the other side of the coin to get caught in the machinery. Strike thru error it seems. 1971 hole.webp1971hole2.webp

1996pwlipmark.webpSecond coin is a 96D. Note the extra metal at the corner of his mouth.

looks like a lee harvey oswald copycat was using the coin for target practice. Or he didn't like 50 cent and he's taking his anger out on a 50 cent piece.

Third today is a 74. Note the large dent in the head in front of the ear.1974dwholeinhead.webp And last is a 1984 with grease filling error (I think) on the "8". Comments welcome. This is from 1 box today, no silver though.1984whole where date.webp

Man you are very observant...Great Pics

I had a 10 x lens and some really thick reading glasses that work well as magnifiers.

50 Cent, the '74 has the hole in the head. I have only found 2 error coins ever before today. One a Jefferson with big cud, the other a 25% off center Lincoln. Today was a good day. But no silver.

Here's the last one. A 1971 D with Reverse machine doubling, if I'm not incorrect.1971dmachinedoub.webp

I think they're called strike thru errors, as in something was between the planchet and die and it hit Wham! and left the impression. In our cases, most likely grease. Once I find more and study more, I'll get better at ID.

I gotta agree with 50cent on that first one. Probably hit with a BB gun or something of the sort. I got one like that somewhere thats just loaded up with hits like that all over the side of the coin. The others, however, looks pretty nice!

I'm breaking out the bb gun tomorrow and going half dollar hunting to test the theory. My daughter left one here when she moved out some time ago. I think this hole is too small and too deep for a bb. One way to find out, it will make a good test though.

You'll shoot yer eye out!
