It is a misaligned die, but well within mint standards. The other is just damage. Someone got happy with a punch.

Is misalignment even more common with dimes or am I just seeing things? It seems like I see tons of them.
 

Yes they seem to be. I think it's because of the smaller size.

Yes, they are due to the smaller size. Quarters are the rarest to find, since they are easier to see. This is also the reason why silver dimes still exist in some quantity in circulation, while silver quarters are barely findable.
