Detector(s) used
Minelab E-Trac, Deteknix X-Pointer, Garrett Pro Pointer
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
I have a chance at both detectors at around the same price. F75 ltd comes with the 2 coil package and the Etrac is an older Irish build. What would you choose and why? I know I am opening a can of worms here, but might get some insight. Not looking to water detect and will be mostly in high mineralization and EMI. The F75 doesn't have the new upgrade.

I would have to say neither one. If the Etrac is that old and had a problem you could be looking at $4-700 to repair it and the Pre DST F-75 is too chatty for my tastes. I would by all means look for an Etrac with at least 1-2 years warranty left. As you know First Texas warranty is not transferrable.

PS: Don't buy a Tector with one of those buttons that does nothing this time. LOL (I had to stir the pot a little!)

What budget are you working with and are you keeping the F-5?

I wouldn't buy either. Save your money a while longer and then buy either one new. Different machines in any event. I own the new F75 SE/LTD and like it but without the new software I wouldn't buy it and too upgrade it gets pricey . The Etrac I don't own but it certainly is a different animal than the Fisher.

Offered a f75 Ltd and 2 coils that was bought new in Feb. when all is said and done about another $100 out of my pocket and my F5.

Don't know much about the F75, although I have not ever heard of it as being the same category as the e-trac.

I do own the e-trac and will tell you it is a great machine. Are there any video comparisons on youtube?

The upgrade from Fisher is $159 to take the LTD to the latest software. At the same time you can purchase one to three years of warranty . . . for a price, of course. But for $209 you'd get a "new feature" machine with one year warranty; including the latest EMI shielding and processes. That's what I'd do.

Upgrade

But the E-trac is the same price as the un-upgraded F75 and is a heck of a detector. If you are hunting at a saltwater beach I'd probably say the E-trac at that price. It's not as deep shooting on coins if you believe the reviews.

I bought a used F75 LTD SE a couple months ago and have had some success with it in the fields. I have no problem with chatter since my existing detector was the F4 and I have grown to expect a little chatter. I can't comment on the minelab since I have never handled one. The deal I purchased was $1600 worth of metal detecting gear including the F75 LTD SE and a White's coinmaster detector for $800. Since the ground is frozen I am contemplating in getting mine upgraded with some of the clad I found this season.

What areas do you want to hunt where you need extra depth? I am doing more plowed fields now, that's the reason I purchased the F75. If I was going to continue on detecting public parks, schools, and some private properties, I'd have been happy with my F4 capabilities and not bought the F75 LTD SE..

ETrac for sure.
As previously stated elsewhere, I jumped from an F70 to an ETrac. Best detecting move I've made.
True, the F70 is only a "lil bro" to the F75, so I only speak from personally using a 70. More Emi with the 70. Virtually none w ETrac.
The speed of the 70 is unequaled. Had to seriously slow sweep w ETrac. Very confusing initially.
But the ETrac provides sooo much more information. Especially to an experienced user. I doubt anyone can Fully understand the potential of ETracs, engineers aside. I learn more each time I use an ETrac.
ETracs made in Ireland can be more desirable.
If you only hunt relics, I'd choose an F75.
All else with relics included, ETrac.
GL
Peace ✌

I am going to try to do some forest hunts this next year. I have been mainly a park hunter, but I want to try to expand my horizons. These are 2 places I want to hit.

And I want to get permission to hunt here.
