Detector(s) used
MINELAB EXPLORER II
Hello Out There
Got a question here. But first I will let you all know that I am going to be 50 in Feb. and this is going to be my first summer to try my hand at finding gold. Going to start up at miners delight in Wyoming, as I live in Manila, Utah. Any body live in my area Maybe Green River or Rock springs Wyoming. Probably going to join GPAA. Right now I am making a drywasher. Now for my Question. I would love to get a GPX 4000 but due to funding my choice is going to be either the Tesoro Lobo Super Traq or the Minelab Eureka and would like to know what you all think about these machines GOOD AND BAD. Before I go out and buy one. Thanks for your help in advance.

I have used the Minelab GP 3500 and the Lobo. Both are nice detectors, but the Lobo is lots cheaper and still a fantastic gold detector. Though I am a Minelab fan, I can not comment on the Eureka since I only used one once.

Joining the GPAA is a good idea and you will make many friends there. Many gold hunters use the Lobo. I haven't been nugget hunting for a year and my brother wants me to join him.

I've got a Lobo Super Traq and have used it only twice in 8 years for nuggetshooting. I was successful with it one time--50% of my trips!!! Don't know about the Minelab, but I hear they are heavy and complicated. It you want a great all-around machine with emphasis on gold, I suggest the LST. With a lifetime warranty and made in USA, you'd have a hard time finding anything comparable. Easy to use, with a body that can be easily slipped off the stem and onto your belt, it's lightweight and sturdy. Try to see the two models you are considering in person. Give them a few swings and see how they feel to you. Then ask the dealer to take you out on a demonstration.

Let us know which machine you choose, then let us know how you do with the gold. Good luck.

Either one will do good for you. Price may be the difference here. However , with that being said , teh Eureka can be used very successfully in a variety of hunting options. It is fast becoming a decent beach detector as well as a pretty good coinhunter. Couple that with the fact that it is a better than average gold hunter and yo can see where this is a good choice. 8)
