used to surface hunt a field and never found anything other than a few points, then one day I found an axe broke right down the groove. The following spring while walking it after a spring rain, i found the other half and made it one again.

Very nice! I've matched up a few points over the years, one was 10 years apart to the week, but never a hardstone tool.
 
My son and I were hunting a field a year or two ago and he found the bit end of a small full groove axe in one of our favorite fields I walked about twenty or thirty yards and found the other half of it. It goes back together nicely. It was also the first axe either of us had ever found. I'll dig it out later and post a pic of it.

Thank you. I think it was broke either that spring when he was preparing the field for planting or the previous fall when he turned the field after harvest. It doesn't appear to have been broke very long at all.
