I decided to just wander around a couple new ball fields. I knew they weren't old, the ground was but they had brought in a lot of fill to even out the ground. I thought, clad, maybe jewelry, whatever, was worth a walk.

I was right, nothing old, but still an enjoyable hunt.

Eyeball find.

Especially fun when you open a plug and see this. :)

All clad, but still. :)

My AT-Pro loves to play tricks on me.
Rang up as a penny, when I first saw it, I saw the gold edge. :)

Then there was this one.

Then there was this one. Rang up as a pull tab, looked like a paper clip when I first saw it.

Surprisingly solid lil thing too. Almost 2 grams of .925!

Anyway, hope you enjoyed your visit.

Hey nice little outing and one can never complain with a tad of silver in the pouch but do me a favor. Go out and set that ring down on the ground again and those two rounds that are gold colored.
I think you'll find that the 925 ring came in with a super high tone (kinda like a penny) and the two round objects were the ones that came in like a pulltab.
Silver has a tone all to its own and is a higher tone than copper.

I dug 74 coins yesterday and only one silver and it was a dime. I knew it was a silver dime before I dug it. I dug 18 other dimes and they hit real good and real high tone but not as good and as high tone as the silver.
On Saturday, I dug a smashed sterling ring and again, real high tone and numbers like a penny, not a pulltab.

Just trying to help!

Oh, and I greatly appreciate any help I can get! Thanks!

I know what you mean by the different tones normally interpreted by the detector and yep, silver, in normal circumstances, will cause a singular tone all to itself. But, given a mineralization of better than 92, fill dirt that contains much iron derivatives, plus many "hot rocks", along with a very hard packed clay/soil/sand mix, rather uneven ground, and much trash. That, plus a very uneven oxidation trail, let alone the uneven shape of the ring and it's strange orientation in the ground. Well, it might well confuse the circuitry. LOL I KNOW it does me! LOL And it also fooled the detector, it rang up as 50-53. Strange? Yeah. but I dig them too. :)

Most of my experience is using the good ole Groundhog, (with the meter broken). :) I have long since trained my ear to tell between metals. But, I have to admit that this AT-Pro is a different animal. I still need to rely a bit more on the VDI. I'm learning it and do need help. But, always remember, there is a LOT of variables involved in any find. Throwing targets on the ground to practice is a good thing. It will never duplicate all the situations in the field though. Next time you hear a pulltab, think about what else might be in the ground with that target.

Thank you kindly for the help!

HH!
