Hi folks. Hope everyone's hunts have been good to you. I started out this morning driving around looking for spots. Left a card at one place that no one was home and found 2 more places that look awesome. I had spent about an hour looking and decided if I was going to detect, I better make it quick. I found myself in the vicinity of a park that gave me my very first Merc, so I thought " What the heck....let's try for another!". This park was built in the early 60's so I hoped it might still hold some silver yet. I headed straight to the area I got the first Merc and found a bit of clad, then got a faint semi-high tone, swung back over it and looked at the display. It said 80-81 which is a dime signal ( I expected a Rosie ) and 6+ inches. I dug the plug and scanned the hole. Still there. Loosened the dirt a little deeper and found some shine in the hole! Merc! Swung the detector back over the hole.....dime signal again! It couldn't be! Used the pointer....nothing. Loosened the dirt in the bottom of the hole again and felt the vibration of the pointer. Scooped the dirt out and saw the edge of silver again! Dime sized and shiny! At this point, I had to text Cjon455 and let him know what he was missing, lol. I am so mean sometimes! Thanks for looking and hope your holes are shiny!

I apologize for the poor video quality and the audio on it. I only had my IPod Touch with me.

AWESOME mercs! I know the feeling of driving and searching. Looks like you had a great hunt, But thanks for rubbing it in! Congrats

Looks like you're doing ok in the finding potential places.
Excellent saves!

And don't fret the video, we already had a DeMille. ;)

Great hunt Old Dude! You have a very calming voice. I like your compact for your coins.

Great double score on silver. Congrats!

Thanks all for your responses. Was a great day today as I had another productive hunt later!

I could stand a little mercury poisoning

Thanks! Believe it or not, I still feel manly carrying it, lol. I found it on my first hunt with Cjon and thought it would be perfect for silvers. I liked the idea that I had detected it and am using it for future finds.

I have a good digital camera that shoots excellent video, but hate carrying it around with me. I like to travel as lightly as possible, lol.

Hey, at least I caused you to take a break and hunt your new yard, lol.

congrats on the beautiful mercs

Awesome double silver dime find!! I actually found 2 firsts in the same hole..my first silver Rosie and then a Merc in the same hole! I was so excited that after finding the Rosie, I filled the hole in, stood up, swung over it BING 81 BING 81...ha I got back in and dug my first Merc out. A VERY small yard in town, which also yielded my first IH cent...yes-3 firsts-one yard. That's been a couple months and I still haven't been back to look in the back yet..Great stuff Old Dude! thanks for sharing...ddf

I will never forget my first silver. It was the very first target of the day ( 64 Rosie ) and then the very last target on the way back to the car was my avatar....my first and only 3 ringer. Thanks for your post and hope you get many firsts this year!

Loved the title Dave. :laughing7: Congrats in the Merc spill.
I believe that Dman used that cosmetic compact to hold his moustache wax? :tongue3:

"Thanks for looking and hope your holes are shiny!"
Classic! I think I'm going to have that put on a bumper sticker.
Thanks for the post,
DUHg

My buddy and me send pictures to each other all the time, rubbing it in. It is a lot of fun to outdo each other. We take turns it seems.

I am trying to understand something. Did you find the first Mercury dime in the face compact?

No sir. The one in the compact was the first one found in the hole. The one on the digger was the second in the hole. I repurposed the compact as a carrier for my silvers so I don't scratch them. The compact was found on an earlier hunt and I just thought it was a good size for a coin holder. A little cleaning and cotton makeup pads on either side and it was perfect!
